    Thought this was interesting

Faron McCain of Sweetwater caught Toyota ShareLunker 523 from O.H. Ivie yesterday. It weighed 14.94 pounds. Due to a clerical error there was some initial confusion about the PIT tag number, but when we got back to TFFC we were able to verify that the fish is the same as ShareLunker 503 caught last season by Jerry Bales, when it weighed 16.08 pounds and was the new lake record.

Thats how the SAL program works. That fish was our lake record last year. I bet she was full of eggs last year when we weighed her and already spawned out this year.

Looks as if the SAL program is working. It also shows that some fish are dumber than others.

Re: Thought this was interesting (elm creek)

    That is really incredible

Also brings up a thought --- if this fish has already spawned, what is the purpose for taking her to Athens? I suspect maybe they do some other types of studies and observations to them all. ??? I think it would be neat to visit the TFFC to see and learn first hand what they do with the SAL's while they have them.

That would be a pretty cool field trip. I heard somewhere (maybe wrong) that they do some work with artificial insemination between the largest, healthiest fish & drop the fry into the female's water of origin... don't really know though

If you have never been to Athens it is a trip well worth the time.
Toni and I went a few years past and it was awesome. Athens lake ain't a bad fishing hole either.
