    Ficht problem

Hi, guys i havent been on here before, but im at my wits end with my boat motor! to start off, i bought a 525 stacer easyrider with a evinrude 115 ficht brand new back in 03' and have treated it like a baby its only got 83 hours on it, and its lucky if it sees water 3 times a year! anyway last time i used it, i got a few k's from the ramp when it coughed and went into limp mode! so after doing this id shutdown and restart the engine only to have it keep doing the same thing over! so i limped back the the ramp with the auxilary motor!
I put it down to old fuel, so i drained the tank, replaced the filters and took it out the next weekend, and it did the same thing!
So next i took it to the boat mechanics where its been for 2 months now! he's put the diagnostics on it, and taken it for a run about 3 times now and he tells me it gets an oil fault pop up for a split second and then its gone again just before it go's into limp! hes replaced the oil pressure sensor $207.00 later and he took it for another run, but this time it got a lot further (about 10k) before it went into limp! but still the problem persists, now hes talking about an oil pump which is around the $1000.00 mark, and he recons if that dont fix it then its the ECU which is about the $3000.00 mark! now i'm worried!! he tells me that if there is a problem the diagnostics on the computer should pick it up but when its not logging a fault what can he do!

That is going to be difficult to narrow down. You can eliminate low oil because it is going into slow. No oil pressure I would think would last long enough to set the code. I believe I would look for the possibility of a chafed wire rubbing on the block giving a momentary signal at various times. Just a thought. I don't know how difficult it would be for you to send the EMM to DFI technologies but they may be able to save you some money. http://www.dfitechnologies.com/

What oil are you running? Most times we used XD-100 during the winter months to prevent a false no oil alarm, then could go back to XD-50 in warmer weather....Just a thought.

I don't know that new south wales ever gets that cold?

To the OP I'd say that if the mechanic is just guessing and throwing parts at it it's time to find a better mechanic.

I'd bet on the oil pump. I did replace the one on my 03 225 Close to 300 hours and no EMM problems....JMHO

    Take your motor to:

    Huett Marine Centre

    1131 Pacific Highway
    Cowan NSW 2081, Australia
    (02) 9456 1444

Talk to Craig Huett - he is the best there is in that part of AU. Tell him that the seahorse sent you!

Well we took the boat back out for a test run yesterday but the wind was up as was the water so we couldnt give the engine to much throttle, and it wouldn't go into limp mode, but on the diagnostics the orange warning light was on the oil the whole time sometimes going to green! now we brought the engine back to idle and unplugged the the oil pressure switch and nothing happened! no alarms and no error codes...! i thought that was a little strange! and it has got the mechanic stumped so ive pulled stumps with this mechanic now after wasting 400 bucks and i'll take it to another place in sydney i think !

I give Craig a call seahorse, and he was only too willing to help, he did give me a couple of things to look into but werent succesful! unfortunately hes a few hous drive from me !!

Even though I've never met the man, his knowledge and reputation in that area is unsurpassed as confirmed by the factory folks, other customers, and my correspondence with him over the past few years.
