How does Choke Canyon compare to Falcon

Our group usually takes a trip to Falcon every year in March. We have been goin for the past 5 years and we always catch a ton of fish and usually a bunch of PIGS down there, but with all the border issues goin on we are thinkin about stopping a little further north this year at Choke Canyon. How does it compare as far as numbers and size? What is the best time to go down there? Where are the best places to stay, and places to stay away from? Thanks for any info Jim McKnight

Unless it has changed, stay away from the Bass Inn. It is normally pretty filthy. By the way, watch out for the large gators.

Jim it will fish ALOT smaller.

    I've only been there once.

If I were gong I would still go to Falcon and just stay in the Tiger.
You can fish there for months and not fish the same water.

Was at Falcon last April and fished 4 days in the Tigers. Caught lots of fish many over 5 lbs, biggest went 9.35 lbs. They tell (warn) everyone to stay American side; most do, some didn't. Those that didn't have paid a high price. Stay on the American side and you'll be ok. Like they said about Choke, not as big or as many. But Choke at the right time can produce some big fish!

Jim don't bet on it never will happen the Cartels run Mexico period! Best advice is stay on the US side as I have and never drive across the border again. This past Monday in Nuevo Laredo they beheaded a woman put her head between her legs cut off one finger and stuffed it in her mouth, the picture was not a pretty site. No where in Mexico is safe to go by land or water.

Since you are headed to Falcon, you should try Choke you might be surprised.
