    Active Captain vs SD Card

What is the difference if I update my 93SV units via Active Captain or SD card? Which is best? And is it now safe to update software? I have not updated recently due to issues I have read about. Thanks everyone!

Although some say files can be "left out" via AC app, i dont see that so i say its the same thing.....the file from AC or downloaded from the website both get placed on an SD card and unit updated the same.....

When i had Lowrance, i did those updates via Wifi and never had issues. If there are problems its in the software codes (if thats how you say it). I'm sure if you search enough yoiu can find someone that downloaded via website and still has issues.

No different, IMO. The software installer will do an integrity check on the file before installing. If the download is incomplete in any way it isn't going to proceed with the update install. Same code, regardless of how you load it on the device.

You have to put a card in the unit and set it up.
I don’t have the same unit as you but the instructions should be in your owners manual.

Tried twice to update my 106SV's via SD card via Mac download. Didn't work. First attempt through AC worked as advertised. Notified by AC of a new software update a couple of days later and again, worked as advertised.

AC will download the file to your phone. Then when you connect to your unit, it will then transfer the file to the SD card in your unit. Once that is done, it will then start updating the unit and when completed, it will delete the file off the card in the unit. File on phone will also be deleted. IF you did not set up the AC card in your unit, then you will you will need to manually update it.

I had an SD card that I used for updates but I put the LakeVu Ultra on it and it's in there now. I guess that's why it says no SD card in the device. I have some new ones coming to try. One question is, if I take the LakeVu Ultra card out of the unit will the maps goa away, or has the data been transferred to the unit. I don't want to take a chance and loose the $200.00 worth of data on the SD.

Ultra mapping is always read from the card. It does not permanently transfer to the unit. When you take the Ultra card out, then the MFD defaults back to your built-in mapping.

Like Todd said, the mapping does not permanently transfer to the unit but I have removed my Ultra mapping SD card multiple times and never lost the data on the SD card.

In answer to your question, Garmin is working on an update to improve (fix) update 2.33 which came out to fix update 2.30, the Perspective View software update.
If you don't have to have Perspective View today then I would wait!
