Anyone towing with the 6.2 L Super duty

Looking at a truck and wanting to see if anyone has towed with the 6.2 L gas motor in a super duty?

Yep. I tow a 12,000lb 5th wheel with mine. It will pull great if you don’t get worked up because it’s turning a lot of RPM. That’s where gas engines generate torque. Pulling a bass boat you won’t even notice. If you don’t tow anything heavier than a bass boat, you’d be happier with a 150 for the smoother ride empty and better MPG OF AN Ecoboost IMO. The 3.5 Eco feels like it has the same guts as a 6.2 with a load.

Thanks CatFan, I have a F150 with the V8 in it now, it don't do bad around home but it really struggles when i get into the hills in southern Tennessee. I had a powerstroke and loved it but damn they are getting crazy expensive

    I went with a 6.7L. It's just easier...

I had a 6.7 sitting in the garage to pull the boat with and it was a horse but its hard to justify paying that kinda money for nothing more than a boat puller so I sold it. I can't have a diesel truck for work (they pay part of the payment, 90% on maintenance and gas) so i'm required to have a gas motor. I traded in my F-150 on a F-250 with the 6.2...it pulls the boat just fine and the only negative I've seen so far is the fuel mileage isn't gonna be great

That new 7.3 is suppose to be king!! I am going back to a diesel after a short detour with a F150 myself.

I would say in all honesty between 15 and 20 percent better towing than the 6.2l. The fuel usage on the 7.3 looks to be better towing heavy but I cant confirm as I have not done it and checked with my customers on mileage. Ford way over hyped this engine as far as I am concerned as I waited to order a new truck for them to get it out. I was hoping for better torque but beings it is just over the EB for torque it was disappointing to me beings it was going into the Superduty and 550, 650 series. I really like the simplicity of the pushrod design but it needs to have a low boost turbo setup on it then it would be rightfully called Godzilla! Like you my new truck has the 6.7 in it. I regularly tow 14k with it and it does it without any drama that I get out of the gas trucks. So far I am averaging almost 15mpg way better than I expected. To the O/P if you are going to get a 6.2 and are going to tow heavy with it get the 4.30 diff. We have 8 or so 6.2's and they do a great job until you get into the 10k+ range and are in hilly terrain. The 3.73 ratio does a great job with anything else and it get decent mileage empty. Just a FYI. If I did not have any towing needs over 10K I would get a 150 with the EB as Catfan said. I also have a 150 with the 5.0 in it for a company truck and it does good but no comparison to the 3.5EB. For that matter the 2.7EB will run with the 5.0 and get better mileage empty. CJ
