    Starting problems

I was on the lake Saturday and at one point, the battery felt like it was dead when I tried to start. The battery was a little old but I had charged it the night before. I bought a new interstate battery on the water and it helped. At first, it still turned over really slow, like with a dead battery. Then after a while, it just started fine. The next day, after again being on the charger, it would sometimes do the same thing. Act like the battery is dead and then all the sudden turn over fine. Sometimes it would do this during the same key turn. It would barely turn over like 6-8 times and the spin freely.

So my question is whats going on. Is it the starter going bad? Something in the electrical system not giving the starter enough power? Is it something worse?

    Thanks for the help

    Re: Starting problems (Panichunter)

You'll not get the help you want without posting your model and year. If I had to make a wild guess about your problem I'd look at battery/solenoid/starter connections, corroded cables or the starter gear sometimes being hung up in the flywheel at rest.

Remove the wing nuts on the cranking battery and replace them with the like size stainless steel nylon insert nuts or Stainless Steel hex nuts an SS lock washers. Check the connections at the battery and solenoid. You can have your starter tested at an auto electric shop if you take it off and bring it to them.
