1966 Johnson 6hp Prop Suggestions
Quick question:
I have a 1966 Johnson 6hp that needs a new prop. I use it on a 11 foot Basshound, the typical load is 500-600 pounds. The only reason I am replacing it is because the one on it now is an old rotted plastic prop. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks

I know we fall in love with our old motorized toys but I think you would be better to buy another old motor.. I just sold our old 1972 vacation ted Williams 7.5 for $150 2 years ago (maybe 50 hours) to a neighborhood guy. He could return it after week in Wis. For a $100. 50 buck rental. Just check Facebook and Craigslist and buy a good old mercury for $200 to $500. Lighter, more parts etc.. the new engine might be worth 100 bucks less when you sell it 5 years from now.. search those sites and maybe find a few local fishing clubs and attend and pass out flyers.. there are a bunch of great hardly used motors in fisherman's garages. 9.9's..

I ran a 4 horse for years. Do some eBay searching and you can find some metal ones from back in the day. I always just used the plastic ones.

Thanks y'all. I would love to get a higher hp motor, but the boat is only rated up to 7hp.

My experience with with older pin drive rude/Johnson motors is to stick with factory props. Dont
go with a Michigan wheel that’s forsure
