Looking at buying a new boat with a 2005 Evinrude, 225 HO direct inject. I've never owned an Evinrude, so what should I expect? Reliablilty, fuel econ, maint?
The bad and the good??
How many hours should I expect to get on the powerhead?

I have an 03 and I would say they are all pros with only one con. Pros, excellent fuel economy compared to carbed engines, torque on blast off and midrange second to none, and sips oil.![]()
Con, maintenance is a must, more so than the carbs. With the close tolerances and lean burn of these engines, it's IMO necessary to have the software to help you keep up with codes and whats going on with it. Keeping the fuel fresh with stabilizers, running a good quality oil, I run the xd-100, and keeping the grounds clean....IE SHINY!! I love my 03!!
Make sure that you have a trusted and trained technician to look over the motor before you buy it and who will be available to keep the motor serviced correctly.
Many of those motors in commercial fishing or law enforcement use run well over 2000 hours, some over 3000.
