Heading back to Texas the End of March and into the first of April.....

Had a TREMENDOUS trip to Choke last year with the ole man. We are currently looking to book somewhere and we would like to try another fishery....well pops would .....that choke canyon lodge was so nice I am having a real hard time not heading back there, but I guess its good to try as many places as ya can. With that said, where should we go Texas experts?

    Hey Jay,
I chatted with you a little prior to your trip last year....and I think Falcon is in order this time around! As long as the water level remains as is, you will not regret it.

Thats it!!!....Falcon it is. What is the nicest and safest place to stay? Dont care about $$. We are driving 26ish hours straight and want to stay at the best place possible within 30 minutes or so of a boat launch. I have seen a post about were to stay while fishing Falcon.....what do you think TXbass?

Jay, if your not careful you might just see too much of our southern waters and be spoiled. You won't look at your home waters with the same sentiment. Then you will become a transplant. Don't blame you though. I moved from a lake house on Fork, and I was humbled by the size and amount of fish I was able to find here in S. Louisiana.

I guess I will have to wait til I get closer to retirement before I can get back to Fork full time

    Good luck on your trip.

I have not experienced a really nice place to stay there yet...maybe someone else can help with that. I have stayed in one HOLE, and then Oso Blanco twice. Oso is convenient (private ramp on property),reasonable, and I still have all of my gear.

For that time of year, I think Fork would be the best. O.H. Ivey might be another good choice. Choke Canyon will most likely be in post-spawn by then. Falcon will probably be pre-summer by then. The fish should be back out in the deep and looking to feed.

Re: Heading back to Texas the End of March and int ... (utinator)

yeah Fork is high on the list for sure.......next year my break is at the END of april so I think we will do Fork next year and Falcon this year at the begining of april....unless in a month or so people are reporting bad catches at Falcon and then we will BAIL and head elsewhere. Thats what happened last year with our trip to Amistad. We got word that the fishing was terribly tough and then we decided to head to Choke.....great call.

Re: Heading back to Texas the End of March and int ... (2001tr20)

we were there in April last year and we caught a lot of fish in the fingers area and a creek that I dont remember the name of. We also did VERY well around both boat launches and the dam area along the rip rap was very good.

you can spend every day around both boat launches.....the one opposite the dam has deep grass all around it. Look for it on your depth finder and chunk traps and cranks to it and hold on.

I'd probably would go to Amistad this year. Been pretty cold this year and the end of March to the 1st of April should be at prespawn or the spawn. Nice and safe and cheap places to stay. I'm heading there the 7th of April to fish and spring turkey hunt for a week and figure it will be on. Look at the Bass Champs weights for the Jan tourney

If you want a chance at a double digit, then Falcon is the place to go. Ivie will turn loose a lot of numbers of fish at that time, with a chance at a hawg too.

Oso Blanco is always my choice when I go to Falcon. Not super nice, but clean and the rooms have plenty of room to lay your stuff around the room.

We almost went to amistad last year, but the people I talked to said that its a deeper bite than at falcon and Pops and I love our flippin and pitchin and pig and jig slingin.
