They won but would have liked them to spread the offense around..R. Sims amd H. Sims, that was the whole game. Do they not have any receivers or TE. I did like how Katy spread it around and got everyone in the game. Would hate to be a WR for AHS and know my job for the whole game was to block. They won and congrats to them, but the play calling sucked.

I agree that the play calling sucked but that's is why I not a coach. I realize that Katy was keying on Hershel but I wish they would have involved the guy that got them there in the first place a little more. Stompy, they do have receivers that can catch and Ronnel can deliver the ball well when called upon to do so. This game should have and could have been a blowout if a little imagination was used on the Abilene sideline. Now with that said. Coach Warren did what he thought he had to do to win and it worked. Congrats to Coach Warren and his staff for a job well done, congrats to the AHS defense. The did an awesome job of swarming all night and don't receive enough credit. They are the main reason AHS got to this point. Last but not least congrats to coach Joseph and the Katy Tigers for playing their hearts out and making the run for the title.
Johnny, sorry about the confusion on the 200 yard game I said Hershel would get. I meant to say Ronnell. 223 baby. Getcha some a dat.

As a class of '72 grad, I was tickled to see AHS finally get a State championship. Man, we had a long drought!

I guess that is why we don't coach. Stompy I guess that would be like being in the biggest tournament of your life and not using your two best "go to baits" and going out fishing something you don't have as much confidence in. At this level, and for this game especially, you go with your best chance. Katy's best chance was to see if Abilene High could stop the offense if they spread the ball around. Abilene High's best chance was to see if Katy could stop the run.

I had a coach tell me once that they run the ball until the other team stops the run, then run it again to make sure it wasn't a mistake!! I can't imagine what everyone would have said with that kind of running talent if Abilene High put the ball in the air too many times and lost the game. I am sure every wide receiver for Abilene High is very happy today!

Is Abilene Cooper no longer a power house?

They dropped to 4A a couple of years ago. Made it to the Quarter finals this year. Got beat by Denton Guyer. They hung 34 on Abilene High early this year. They have struggled since Abilene realigned the school distrists a few years ago. They will probaly move back up to 5A next year.

In that game it would have been a lot better to be on defense. At least those boys got to. As far as comparing this to a tx and baits, apples and oranges..Were talking about a team of young men, not 1 man and some baits...IMHO...

They were when Jack Mildren and me were there. I think Cooper won or at least played for a few more State titles since then.
