    VRO-no horn

Ok, i have a 1992 90hp V4 Rude on my Cajun and I was reading somewhere that the V4 i have has an alarm that is supposed to briefly sound when istart the engine. This does NOT happen when i start my engine so how do i know if all of the sudden I'm out of oil or for some reason it just ceases to work. By the time i figure it out i will have major damage. Anyone ever disconnect and just premix? Is it difficult to disconnect? Is it easier to fix the horn?
Any insight would be much appreciated as i'm trying to avoid any major situtations and get this ride back to being in the best shape it can be.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Brent

    Re: VRO-no horn (Steelhead31)

You can check the horn to see if it works, remove the motor cover, look on one of the cylinder heads, either one, you will see a brown wire coming out between the top spark plug and the middle spark plug, disconnect that brown wire and touch the harness side to the block with the key on, the horn should sound.

I don't think the 92's had a self testing horn but you can get a horn kit and it will self test when you turn the key on.

I can confirm what Rusty says about the new horn kit..........it does fix the "how do I know problem if it's working". Amazing how much heat a Johnson can take(when the horn isn't working) without a total meltdown.

    um...uh.... well....geeze,.....huh, ...I'm not sure... um...let's think about this...

I"m not really sure where you can get a horn kit, but maybe talking to a Johnson-Evinrude dealer to see if there was some way they could locate something like that for you. It may be a stretch, but since you have a Johnson or Evinrude outboard motor,... hmmmm.....maybe a dealer for those products would be your best bet.

Also perhaps you could give Riverside a call and they may even be kind enough to send one to you if you give them a credit card number or send enough money.

Other than that I...uh... cannot think of any other place to get one.

You will have to excuse Seahorse, I think he forgot to take his meds today.

The horn kit is part number 585992 @ $57.61 and you can order one at any BRP dealer.

Thanks guys...i know it sounded like a dumb question...it should have been "do you know where i might be able to obtain one from a reputable affordable supplier?".

    Thanks guys!
