Questions about my 03 Evinrude 200 HO

First, Lately i have noticed that when I hit the start button the starter doesnt want to engage. I here it spin but it wont catch. I hit it a few times and sooner or later it will catch and fire up. Any ideas? Brushes going bad? flat spot on armature?

Second, I just played around with the hydraulic fluid in the power trim. Everything seems to be working fine but I want to make sure I have it done correct. I found the information on BBC but it was a bit vague in a couple of areas. What fluid should be used? Is power steering fluid OK? If i support the motor in the up position, unscrew the fill cap and pour fluid in unitl it runs out, thats all the fluid that should be needed correct? Im assuming the boat should be level? Should I dip the front of the boat down to keep more fluid in the resevoir before capping it? Also should a person raise and lower the motor 5 times and then open the cap slightly to bleed the air out? Should I raise and lower it, bleed it and do this 5 times? Or do I keep it supported and just keep holding the button down for five seconds and then bleed it?

Finally My motor has been pausing durring take off, almost stuttering. I decarbed it about a month ago and fish almost daily so fuel shouldnt be an issue. Any ideas of things to try. Thanks in advance. G

Watch the starter while someone turns the key. If the "bendix" jumps up and engages the flywheel and you hear the starter spinning but the flywheel doesn't. Get the starter rebuilt and the bendix replaced. If it spins to slowly to engage the flywheel, you have a voltage or a starter problem.

Use the factory trim-tilt fluid or Dexron ATF. If its not out of fluid, you don'thave to bleed it. If its out of fluid it has to come apart to be cleaned out and resealed.

Hesitation on acceleration is normally carbs and/or linkage problems

Yeaaa... I took off the cap and lowered the motor. Oil came out. Dirty oil. raised it up and heard a bit of screaching. filled it up with power steering fluid and could never get it to perfect. It doesnt chatter when I lower it anymore which I like but I am getting a touch of squeeling when raising the motor. It seemed to be near full or full when I took off the cap but I was in learning mode and wanted to find out how this stuff works. Maybe wasnt the greatest idea but now I know. lol

Should I drain the oil and use the recommended Evenrude brand? If not what can I get at my local o'reilys parts store?

I will check the starter out. Thank you.
