2004 90 hp Johnson missfire, leaf plate???

Trying to help father in law with problem, motor is J90PLSRR that has a miss, it is most noticable when ideling, new spark plugs with good spark, (tried switching plugs to be sure)but when you take plug wire off one of the cylinders, there is not any noticable difference on one cylinder only. When motor is accelerated, it burps gas out the front of the carb, also has good compression, all cylinders are the same. I know a little which is no help at all about reeds, could it be in the leaf(reed) assembly?
Any help or guidance to information most appreciated!

I'm going to guess it is the two stroke model as you didn't post up the model number as they made a two stroke and four stroke. Also there were two different model numbers in 2004 a GL and PS. So I'll give it a shot. Count the number of turns it takes to bottom out the idle adjustment screw on the offending carb. Then back the jet out that many turns and one full turn more. See if that helps first before you have to tear into the motor to inspect the reeds.

THANKS, it is a two stroke, we tried turning the srew all the way in and backed it out and it made no difference in the way the motor ran. The model is a J90PLSRR
