    Jeep popularity

I don’t know anything about them so I have to ask if they are all that. Lately, I’ve noticed more Jeeps on the roads then ever before. Don’t Jeeps have a bad rep for being uncomfortable and unreliable? There are so many women driving Jeep now that it seems like it is fashionable to drive one. Also, one can’t deny that Jeep is targeting women with their available colors.

Once the four door model hit the market all the soccer moms traded their minivans in for one.

    They ride rough

Gas MPG is less than a full size V8 pickup, even with factory size tires

Its basically a 2 seater (Unless you get the 4 door model, which in my opinion isn't a true Jeep anymore)

Can't haul anything inside them, not even a one piece fishing rod.

With all that said, I wouldn't mind having one for myself They just have the cool factor.

Ive owned jeeps for 40 years. They ride rough cant carry much but I do a lot of 4 wheeling and wont own anything else for that. Id love to see these big lifted over grown crew cab 4x4s go where I can get with my jeep. Ive rolled one out on the trail and drove it home did have some strange looks from that one. That being said their front ends suck until you beef them up they have their quirks like any other vehicle. But like was stated above the 4 doors are not a true jeep in my book either. Just depends on what you want. Ive used them for daily drivers for years but now use my tundra for that and my jeep is a hunting and 4 wheeling rig now.

They have to pay for the hyping of Jeremy Renner's singing career; ergo, that ¢o$t is absorbed by the folks buying them. Kinda like the fishing world, imagine the cost to us, the users, if every company that had stickers and patches didn't have a long stable of Pros (both actually fishing Pros and PROmotional staff)

    Offshoot-

    Q) When did Jeremy Renner start singing?

    A) This launches the whole banana!! Ground floor on the new JR The price will only go up, up, up

The "Tappet Brothers" at Car Talk have some insight into the popularity of the jeep.

My 16 year old daughter wants a Jeep in the worst way, she got a 2009 Toyota Corolla instead since she wasn't paying for it, lol. All the rich kids around here have them, it's like a status symbol. They are all tricked out with big tires and winches but they never leave the pavement.

I've driven them and my dad had an old Jeep for a while as his work vehicle. I can't see spending that much on a vehicle that's that uncomfortable and that you cannot haul anything with. If you do want to take it off road you'll likely have to dump another couple of grand into modifications. Their overall reliability isn't great from what I've heard. To get a used one here they ask an arm and a leg for one that's beat up and rusted through.

In your opinion, based on 40 years experience, is there any difference between the older "Pre-Chrysler" AMC Jeeps, and the Jeeps now? I know the old straight 6 4.0L engines were 'good' almost bullet proof engines.
No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.

I've had two Jeeps in the past. I really liked to buzz around town in them. What everyone says is true, they ride rough, poor gas mileage and they are basically a two seater.(2 door Jeeps) I'd like to have another one, but won't do it. Its just fun to put the top down, take the doors off and cruise around town or along a beach. But since there aren't any beaches here, I'll pass.

According to my niece, 4 door Jeeps aren't real Jeeps... According to my brother real Jeeps have round headlight... I don't know... It must be a Jeep thing... Dan

They are becoming a replacement for the motorcycle, too. We have a 2010 2-door Wrangler that I've since lifted a bit and added aftermarket bumpers, lights, winch etc. Nothing comes as close to the full-open feeling of riding a bike as a Jeep does. Although they still don't ride as nice as most cars or SUVs, the newer ones with the coil spring suspensions ride a heck of a lot better than the older ones. I just wish someone other than FCA made something similar because the quality and build does suck at times.

Never liked them but have owned a few. Bought them to turn a few dollars. My middle boy likes them for some unknown reason and has a couple. I don't have the time to type what all I have found unfavorable about them. Some people don't like bassboats, which I don't understand either. I guess to each his own.

Yup. I'm sitting in my wife's loaner as we speak. The dealer gave her a 4 door wrangler while her 2017 Durango is getting a new AC compressor. Driver's legroom sucks and the the window sticker in the glove box is 40k. I would rather have a full sized truck.

Never did like the wranglers, which is what most think of when they hear 'jeep'.

I do have 2 cherokees tho, as they are a very handy SUV.

Got the 1st one when I got back into hunting and didn't want ot use my new silverado out in the muddy woods. It was cheaper than an ATV, and I could drive it back & forth no matter the weather, whereas the ATV had to be hauled or trailered back & forth.

Got the 2nd one from the same guy I got the 1st one from when he upgraded again.

Still have the 1st one, and 88, which has ~ 380k on it, and while I don't drive it, it is still totally drivable. The 2nd one is my DD, a 96, with currently ~ 172k on it.

Handy, not bad on gas, and fits in more spaces than my 1500. Stopped driving the 88 mainly due to it not having power windows or locks (got tired of having to lean over to roll down the window when someone pulled up on the passengers side to talk when hunting).

    My DD.........
