Where to get started in Texas???

I am relocating from NH and will settling in Kyle Tx the end of January and was looking for any suggestions for what lakes and/or clubs that I should make my home. Also what are the prime times that I will have to be on the water. I do have my own boat but I haver never fished Tx and would prefer to be a non-boater for a while 'til I get the lay of the land. Any and all info that you can give me to help me navigate the Tx landscape will be welcomed.

There are numerous lakes in the central Tx area that are within an hr to 1 1/2hr drive of Kyle. There are also several clubs in the Austin area to choose from, I am the tournament chairman for the Tx Classic Bass Club. We meet at the VFW in north Austin just off of IH35 and are actively looking for new members; both boaters and no-boaters. Also if you are moving to Kyle there is a Cabela's within 10-15 minutes of you.

    Welcome to BBC, Eddie Joe

You can fish year round here with two great peak times being Spring and Fall. If you look at some of the records for this state, most are Dec-Feb for the Big 'Uns

Welcome to Texas!! Find a club you feel comfortable with and get involved and you will pick up pretty quick on what is going on. One thing though, I would suggest that you do not wait to be a back seater too much. You can learn alot just getting out on the water by yourself and get to know the area as you have time. My fishing time would be cut WAY down if I always had to wait for someone else's schedule to match mine.

One other thing, you don't have to worry about winterizing your boat around Austin, you can use it all year!!!

Eddie you can fish with me if you want to, I run a 203 Champion. I am joining ATX club Jan 2nd. They meet at Thredgills on Barton Springs which is South Austin area the first Tues of the month at 7 pm. It is a individual weight tournament, Should be interesting. I can be at a lot of lakes in 45 mins to 2 hrs. Temple Thomas has something to do with that club but we do not want anybody to know that we know him. I live in Dripping Springs, 30 miles west of Kyle. Les Ems, Cottonwood Creek RV Park, Maverick Guide Service

If you want, you can ride around with me for a while. I live in Buda which is right up the street from you. Are you moving into Plum Creek? Les, Temple is our Secretary for our club. He wears the high heals and all. Look forward to meeting you on the 2nd.

I think I'll kill 2 birds w/one stone and swing by for the February meeting and meet you guys so that we can hook up. Feel free to e-mail me directly @ ejmagnum186@hotmail.com. and as always any and all info is appreciated.

Yep even though He's a YANKEE, I'll take him fishing with me, I always need someone to fall overboard to tell me the water is cold in the winter time. Sure hope he can swim.

When you get down here to central Tx, just tell folks that you are from deep East Tx.
