    Neighbors home exploded

    https://wgntv.com/2019/07/29/house-e...an-streamwood/
I'm nearing home after work today and wondering why there are 3 helicopters hovering over my house. The east/west street at the north end of my block is blocked off with police cars and there are 2 trucks from our natural gas provider. I cut thru the backyard and went down the bike paths to the home about 1/2 block away. The entire back side of the townhome is blown out. Windows, doors, siding, chimney. News says there was a smell of natural gas. 1 person taken to the hospital.
Don't know if it was the home owner or the "worker" the news person stated.

My friend's dad died when their house exploded. The house had a propane leak and when the water heater kicked in, the house went boom. He was a good guy too.

I'm curious about this. This is at least the 4th gas explosion I've read/seen in the last 2 months. One home within 30 miles of me was flattened and killed one of the occupants. It was a rather large home too.
I wonder if there's a bad batch of gas water heaters or dryers out there?.....sure is strange to have that many explosions within a few weeks of each other all over the US.
Just curious to find out if there's a link between some of these incidents.
    for those involved

Usually when they explode out here, it's a honey oil lab (weed).

Remember the good old days? Long before Meth Labs, bomb making etc., Back when life was simple and if a house blew up it was just the neighbor kids science project gone bad?
No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.

Electric is rare up here by us - always has been. Gas is FAR more common. Electric seems more prevalent in any area where heat pumps are used in place of forced air furnaces...but that is just a foolish observation on my part, not sure if that it true or not.

ALL the comments about drug cooking --- there was an HVAC guy there according to the articles I read.
    I can tell you this.
I am not sure what change they have made to gas valves. Our service guy told me but I was not fully paying attention. Our old water heater was 20 years old when we replaced it - never needed a thing. The only reason we replaced it was because the new ones were supposedly so much more efficient. The new ones - we have replaced it once, and the second one has been repaired 4 times. All four times was a gas valve issue....which makes me wonder about the recent explosions, which seem more common to me than they ever were before.
