Question Create additional slot in terrova shaft for transducer cable

It will probably sound as insane idea to some, but considering using CNC and route additional groove in the new style terrova shaft
to run transducer cable. I can't believe Minnkota did not think about this, since the built in US2 is so shitty.
    Any ideas?
Did anyone took a part the lift assist before to get the shaft out?

    Thanks

I think that would weaken the warranted lifetime shaft

Hmmm, the other slot that is way wider is no problem.
This one would be only 1/4" wide.
I have no doubt there will be no warranty honored though.

That will not work since the metal spring would be in the way.
Would be much easier to mill 1/4" U shape groove on the other side of the shaft.

Sure it will, like it did on the older version.
    I can't believe Johnson Outdoors/MinnKota/HB didn't think about this :(

They didn't think about because it's not recommended to run and external transducer on the Terrova or Ulterra -- howeve some do and have managed to come up with devices allowing them to do it. The lift assist is part of the turning mechanism, so don't remove it. The shaft is made in such a way as to be the same thickness all the way around, in other words, the square slot for the lift assist spring is not milled in the shaft. When you go to mill/rout a groove, there is a good chance you will go through the shaft. As you said, it would not be warrantied and on the Terrova, you don't replace a shaft -- you replace a shaft / motor center section for around $200.00.

    Thanks John!
    That sucks :(
I used external transducer on the older version with awesome results.
The new v2 I got with US2 is POS , no matter what I do the upper 2.5' is covered with disturbance.
No difference if the motor is on or off. Connecting external transducer the image is perfect.
It just bothers me when fishing shallow water since it clutters the whole display.

    83khz on or just 200khz?

In shallow water, less than 20', turn 83khz off.

Do you realize that at 2.5 feet, you're seeing around 3ft right under the trolling motor. What do you think you're loosing.

Yes, but it will clutter your screen so you have hard time to see temp and depth.

Why there is no problem with the HB transducer only the US2?

Your temp and depth are in the lower right corner -- cluttered by the bottom. you can reduce surface clutter.

Post your surface clutter situation on your Helix on the HB forum for the fix.
