    1999 Evinrude 200 HP Fict

Hi All---I'm looking at a 1999 boat with a 1999 Evinrude Fict 200HP on it. I have never owned an Evinrude and don't know much about them. How is this motor for that year. The boat and motor both seem to have low hours for their age. Anything I should know of that model/that year? Problems to look for?

    Thanks for all info/input.

Also is this motor carburated or fuel injected?

That motor is direct fuel injected. Ficht's have a bad reputation, but I have a 2000 model that has served me well.

The big block 200-225's didn't have the same problems as the small block engines. As with ANY used engine have it checked, and get a computer printout from the ECU.

A '99 FICHT, even the 200-225, has next to no trade in value, so if you are buying the rig, make sure you are only paying for the boat and trailer.

The '99 was not the best running of the FICHTS and they are expensive to fix if you can find someone experienced to work on them.

Thanks to all for the input. That is what I needed to hear. This guy is a little high on this boat I think after hearing your comments.

The owner of this boat is saying that it only has about 200 hours on the motor. Does that make it any better? Still a 1999? What do you all think?

Re: 1999 Evinrude 200 HP Fict (ReelBigJ)

I have a 2000 Ficht 200 that only has around 220 hours. I've owned it for two years now and it starts everytime and runs perfect. I've heard alot of bad stuff about the Fichts and wonder if I just got lucky. I would put my motor up against any other 2000 for reliabilty. I am currently trying to sell the boat and alot of people have been turned off by the Ficht. I love the performance and have been totally happy. I think any non warrantied motor is a gamble and compared to the same year Optis I don't think Fichts are any worse. Good luck in your search.
