I would replace the pickup assembly and clean the tank.
That would be it and that is not a OMS pump, replace it.
That is an old one. Tonights triva question:
What did the brown nipple mean?
No peaking at the white tag.
The Brown Nipple means...................Your Wife is gonna be pissed when she finds out.....![]()

Err, are you sure about the year of that GT? I was under the impression that the VRO Was interduced in the mid eighties and my 1985 XP was among some of the early ones.OMC introduced an oil/gasoline mixing system for their outboard motors in c.1984, and called this feature a Variable-Ratio Oiling system or VRO.

Brown niple, AKA VRO2, was alcohol resistant. A positive 12 volts wire (purple) was added to help on alarm system. This was introduce in 1991 models and all replaced VRO came with a kit.
It is a 86 model, I fixed his post.![]()
I know what year he meant......![]()
So our 90 200 Johnson has the bad VRO? What's so bad about them?

Ding Ding Ding!!!!!!! We have a winner. The white tag that appears to be missing on the pictured unit said alcohol resistant or AR too.
Well Hell Gofer, can't a guy do a bit of transposing. That's why they kicked my arse outta bookkeeping class.
Cides that, when I tried to find out what year it was afore I bought it, I had a blind guy without his glasses reading me the model # over the phone.
Sure nuf is an 86. and from what I hear the only thing good about that VRO is the quality of the picture.
BTW Rusty, won't be calling til Monday. Got busier than chit this AM.
Just give us a call when you can.
Hutch. the older VRO's had a few problems that have been addressed with the OMS pump.
So we would be better off changing to the updated stuff?
What all would have to be changed?
More importantly what would it cost us to have you do it all?![]()
Thanks.

As for that VRO, in it's day when I bought my XP 150, 05/23/85, I thought it was better than sliced bread, and I never, ever had a problem with it.
Although, I did replace it with the new OMS system when I put the motor on
a new 03 Key West center console fishing boat.

I hope it will be before Peetie-pie is walking with a Cain and pushing me in a wheelchair!
In the mean time, I am still having fun nursing my sweet old funky (at times) XP 150.
Actually, it's been a sweetheart trolling and crabbing four or five hours, or just messing around out on the bay or river with my Peetie-pie all day long. Therefore, I am treating it to some "Rusty" Spark plugs! (QL77JC4)
I am not sure where I gap them, either .030, .035, or .040 however, I am leaning to-wards .035 for my type of boating.
Talk to you later and give our love to the Missesl,
From DoferGofer & Peetie-pie,

If your going to use the QL77JC4 plugs gap them 0.030, the plugs shown for your motor are UL77V or QUL77V, these are surface gap plugs..... meaning they have no "J" style ground electrode to gap.
