    Water Separator or Not?

I have a 93 Fast Strike 150. Always use Sta-Bil marine formula in the gas, 89 octane. Now I'm hearing I need to use a water separator. What is it, where do I get it, can I install it, and is it needed?

Also interested. Running a 90 175GT with inline fuel filter. Always use marine stabil every fillup and seafoam every other.

Yes you can install a water separator it is pretty simple to do. It is very similar to an oil filter in your car. It comes with a bracket to mount in your battery compartment with a couple of stainless steel lag bolts. You cut your fuel line install the fuel barbs on the bracket in the proper direction. Slip the fuel line over the barbs and tighten the clamps. BRP makes them, Moeller makes them as well as other manufacturers. The premise is that water is heavier than fuel and as the fuel comes through the system it gets trapped in the separator. It is good practice to replace it every 6 months. I've been running them since 1989. Man I'm old.

    +1

I picked up a Moeller at Academy a couple of months ago for about $40 (eventually I may upgrade to a more heavy duty unit, but this works for now) and have ran the boat a few times with no issues. Cheap piece of mind, indeed!

    Cheers!
