    2005 225 E-tec HO gearcase swap ???

I just blew up my 3rd lightning gearcase and would rather not put this same gear case back on this motor...what gear case are the newer motors running and will it fit my 05'?
The motor is still under an extended warranty and I'm hoping the company will let me go with something that will last more than 2-3 years

I run a Strat 200 xl. If I switch to a magnum can I expect less speed with the same set-up (same prop, prop height, etc)... I hear they are slower. I run a 28 Raker II or 27 Tempest now.

Also...the last 3 have been factory rebuilt old Lightings not the new version. Is the new version lightning any better?

The magnums are a little slower but they give very little trouble.

The new version has a different gear ratio.

The newer L2 Lightning gearcase comes with either 1.86 or 1.71 gear ratios

So the 1.86 L2 would be basically the same as the old Lightning, correct?

Trying to get away from buying new props for this thing.

i have another lighting if intereested. have had mine for three years with one rebuild and have put over 300 hrs in less than 3 years on it. Might want to consider changing you boating ways. Put good lower unit oil in them and try not to surface them alot. I surface mine all the time and turn a 29 ASX prop.
