Thinking of moving north to the Potomac area.....any help/advice would be great

I moved down to Portmouth, VA 9 years ago to land a teaching job. I am originally from Erie, PA and the 9 plus hour drive home to fish lake erie AND to see my parents (my wife and I now have a 2 and 5 year old who miss their grandparents) is starting to get old. Moving 4 hours closer to home would be very nice. I have also heard that the Potomac is a fishermans dream. I teach (certified k-6 and I am currently the Math specialist in my building) and the Mrs. is a speach therapist. If anyone has any info on housing (within 15 minutes of a real nice boat launch for my bullet ) and or the job market I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks fellow BBCer's

    Jay

I would reccomend either Fairfax or Prince William County school districts. I work for Prince William County Schools and it's real close to the best ramp on the river (Leesylvania State Park). Housing is higher in this area because it's NVa enough said. But housing is definitely alot cheaper in the area than it was couple years ago. Second largest school district in va, I think it's like 90 public schools.

Great area to live, fishing is great, but like most places right now the job market stinks. Fairfax County announced this week that they may cuts as much as $170 million from next years school budget and may be forced to close some schools. You can buy a house on the cheap though, but I'd find a job before committing.

    Good luck, HP

I don't know about the job market in the area, but we really have enjoyed our time in Fredericksburg. It isn't as crowded as some of the other towns surrounding DC and it is convienent for fishing the Potomac, Rap, or James. It is a great area to raise a family. If you move up this way, my advice would be in invest in a good frog rod...the potomac is awesome!

    Come on up!!!
I have just a couple years to retire and move back to SC and I want them to double stack these babies on stilts in the subdivisions and the property values to climb a little more for the postage stamp lots. That helps us rural folks too.

I drive up to Erie a couple times a year to fish a TX and fun fish with my friends up there.

I am only certified to 6th grade. Is Stafford County still in VA? I will take all and any info you or anyone could provide. It is appreciated.

    Thanks again everyone.

Stafford is 45 minutes to an hour south of DC on 95, but it might be 2 hours plus if traffic is bad. It is in the Aquia Creek area of the Potomac.
