    hey guys,
dont know if anybody here has heard that virginia bought most of widewater next to aquia creek to be the next state park (1200 acre's) the park has 1 mile of waterfront on the main river and one mile on Aquia creek. The local advisory committee DOES NOT want a power boat ramp at the park. If boaters want a ramp at this new park we must speak up. A petition has been started. please sign it, let your voice be heard. the next meeting is in march. the petition will be presented to the state park planners then.
    thanks

Hey, some of us live over here.
That proposed landing will never be built.
Were trying to keep the traffic down.

well they tried it for Smallwood Park too and I lived 5 minutes from it and it created traffic, the St. Charles Mall, and just Rt 95 period but I guess there has to be a happy median. I do believe in moderate growth. But I firmly believe that if I buy a state fishing license we should be buying land for the Public's use not some guy in a 700,000 dollar home. It should be for all to use and also allow free-flowing traffic areas. Some of these ramp fees are outrageous and actually that would give me closer access, less gas usage, and more money for state revenue, and also it creates more room for the other ramps in the area. Smallwood is always packed. Leesylvania packed, and Aquia-Hope Springs is unreal high priced. And the price of gas is crazy. Why not more access? Traffic..I car pool into work everyday. It's a thing that we have to work out a common solution. The citizens must be happy but at the same time I pay my fishing tax dollars like you and everyone else. So the petition is for anyone interested in it. I respect your opinion Mike but you know my closest bass fishing launch is 1.5 away in MD at Smallwood Park. Like I said I do respect the citizens of the area but the state needs to accomodate the traffic and accomodate the angler's wants and needs.
    Thanks for your opinion Mike.

its a better option that the hotel and houses that they were going to put there. Aquia needs a ramp, but nobody wants it on there side of the river.

    Kris,
While I respect your position on gaining additional river access I don't really have an opinion on this. And I don't think you have all the info. on this "park" the state has elected to place there.

The land was originally donated (by a Brent Point resident) to Dominion Power for a generating plant they decided not to build. They sold the "donated" land to the state for this park they asked no one about. Hummm? See anything wrong with this yet??

My opinion is the ramp will not be built. Come over to a few of the meetings in Stafford and see the level of representation from the local community VS the "petitioners" for the park & ramp. 500 to 1. Looks pretty good for the home team! I see Mike C is on this post too and he has attended some of the meetings?

I appreciate the need for water access, and in VA it is marginal at best. Hope Springs is $200.00 for a year pass with no restrictions on in/out or hours and you can't get that at the parks. Go see Jim and he will sell you one.

    Mike
i have been to the meetings and i have done extensive research about this park, what i dont want is another park to do nothing but drain taxes and be unused. Leeslyvania is a busy park, one of the most used parks in virginia, can you belive it also does the best finanacial, IT ONLY LOST 500,000 dollars. The boat ramp made just over 600k while the rest of the park lost 1.1 MILLION. ouch. i dont want to be stuck with an unused/tax anchor.
you are correct the land was owned by dominion , but was to be sold to a developer if he would have been allowed to put an 1100 room hotel and housing complex on the land, the couty said no.
hence we have a state park, 1100 acreas for 6 million.
    mike

p.s. 3 out of 4 people that enter leesylvaina do so to use the boat ramp. so look at the waist.

I talked to an old timer on the river recently and he informed me about the property south of Leesylvania were the pier comes out and the tanks are, this is going to be turned into apartments. townhouses and such with a hotel on the hill. He is a resident of cherry hill (Dent). God I hope not.

Cherry Hill project already started. Head into the road going to Tim's and you will drive right through it.

Fish while you can. The yuppies are coming. The same as lake Anna and with the same amount of Yahooer's on jet skis.

Now where did I put those plans for mounting the torpeo rack on the boat???
