Wife and I grew up in Flint, Michigan (decades before it became a depressed war zone) and this was a commmon occurance on the Saginaw Bay each year.

When I was a young pup I fished from the shore side of the ice floe crack off of Crane Creek, east of Toledo. The crack would vary from a couple of feet to about 20 feet depending on the wind. Caught limits of perch doing this.

Coast Guard will only rescue you. Any of your property 4 wheelers, snowmobiles, shanties, and other equipment now belong to Dave Jones.

Or anyone who can get out there to scavenge it. Scavenge laws apply. A few nice sleds change hands this way every year. Lol....

People push the issue EVERY YEAR! Not worth it for a few walleye! Glad they made it, not always the case.

Hmm. I always heard you we’re required to pay to have your vehicles etc.. rescued. Same with any sunken vessels. Required to pay for removal even if the removal is a higher price than the priority itself .. just always assumed it was true ??

Yes, you can pay a scavenge firm to go out and get your gear. Otherwise it's up for grabs or on the bottom of the lake. Once on the bottom, you'll never find it unless it's really close to shore. Really close.

This seems to happen every couple of years on Lake Erie.
