Answer this question

So my girlfriend has to answer this question for her psychology class. I just scratched my head and said I’m glad I’m done with school. n regards to addiction there seems to be a difference between someone that is able to use illicit substances recreationally and someone that becomes compulsively addicted. Current research suggests that, for many, it may be a biological difference and treatment often takes the approach of treating addiction as a disease. If there is a biological predisposition for addiction how would you change the way American culture and law enforcement approaches it?

IF and I dont think there is, a biological predisposition it doesnt make any difference in legality of dope. Lock them up, get them in rehab, and if they WANT help it will take. Remember they wouldn't be addicted had they not made the choice in the first place.

I wouldn't change a thing...

il·lic·itDictionary result for illicit

/i(l)ˈlisit/
adjective

• forbidden by law, rules, or custom.
"illicit drugs"
synonyms: illegal, unlawful, illegitimate, against the law; More

• If you never try illicit drugs recreationally you'll never have to be treated for an addiction... Thus you'll never catch this disease... I know that's a simplistic answer but it worked very well for me... Dan

Like gambling...it's a habit, which is a state of mind. I always said that folks who gamble didn't work hard enough for their earnings. Similarly, folks who do illegal drugs don't have anything they really enjoy doing (fishing, hobby, etc.) so just go for mind-numbing BS. It's a personal choice and no change of law or culture is a good thing. The needle houses in Europe and Canada are not good and we don't want to go down that road here.
Don't bother me, I'm screwing for virginity.

I killed a 12-pack just to watch it die.

Dosen't sound any different than the being born gay crap they want you to believe. Give them a blanket, puppy, and safe space then maybe they will not be addicts anymore.

Sounds hypothetically based. Typical psych questions. You give your opinion and roll with it. Then they psychoanalyze your answer at there own belief an discretion and judge you on it. The only correct answer is in the head of the person asking the question . Next question?

No, what they're trying to do is take the "blame" away from the junkie... errrrrr I mean victim... errrrr I mean patient. If it's biological you have no control over it, like getting brain cancer or ALS, hence it's not your fault... Dan

Sounds like a bunch of psycho-babble for someone who doesn't want to take responsibility for their actions.

Hypothetical question. For example Suppose you have Excessive receptors to certain drugs. Lets say these drugs are prescribed for you for pain.. say a bad back. Because you have excessive receptors for these drugs you become addicted. Are you treated like a criminal or patient?

Patient... But it's what you do after you realize you've become addicted that determines if you're a criminal... Do you seek treatment immediately or start stealing and shooting up heroin... Dan

To me it does not matter. You made a choice to take the heroin, cocaine, meth etc...all Knowing how addictive the drug is....and yet... I now have to watch my tax dollars get wasted away for someone who doesn't want to "get clean". Receptors or not, you still made the choice

As someone who's battled...it's a habit...it's learned...its peer pressure, it's a chase and escape. Not a ****ing disease.
And to answer some late ones...When I had surgery on my ear and they drilled my skull...I was on painkillers 2 days then I stopped and went ibuprofen strictly. Recently my foot surgery...2 days of oxy...then 800mg of ibuprofen. I will not take pain meds if not needed. It's a choice I made again. I will not accept any argument at all so don't even try. I've been there and done it.

“Alcoholism is a disease, but it’s the only disease that you can get yelled at for having. Dammit Otto, you’re an alcoholic! Dammit Otto, you have lupus!”

-Mitch Hedberg
