HELP! Boat launch East Side of Susquehanna South of Harrisburg..

    Guys,

I'd like to head the the susquehanna this weekend. I heard that I'd have the best luck with my bass boat just north of the MD line at Conowingo Lake. Were is the best launch on the east side? Somewhere like opposite the peach bottom area.

    Thanks

There are several launches. Actually on at the end of Peach Bottom Rd in PA (East side of river, Robert Fulton Twsp)). There is also a launch just north of the Peach Bottom Nuclear plant(westside of river). Not familiar with it though. Farther south in MD. there is a free public ramp at the end of Mt Zoar Rd(east side of river). On the west side of the river there is Glen Cove marina in Harford Co. MD. All of these ramps are south of the Holtwood Dam and will allow you to fish the Conowingo Pool.

Don't have a MD license, so want to stick to PA, at least for this year.

I keep hearing of the one at Peach Bottom nuclear plant, but don't see a town name, or can't find directions. Anyone?

I do know that would be closer for us, since we are coming from the west.

    Dave...

Not sure if this helps... but here is a website that shows all the launches on the Susky. ( make sure you click the boat access box, and hit refresh)

Yes that is the Nuc.plant. The ramp would be at the end of Lay Rd. where the dot is that says Phila. Elec. I have never launched there and has been many years since I have ever even been by it on the boat. There is a small ramp over on the east side staight across from the Nuc. Plant. It is called Peach Bottom Marina and is at the end of Peach Bottom rd. in Robert Fulton Township.

Be sure to try the area just south of the plant - below the wing dam. That's the release area for the cooling towers, and the water may be as much as 10 degrees warmer and does attract fish during the winter. Avoid it like the plague in summer.

Yep, reall a neat area to fish when the rest of the water is cool or cold. Do not get hung up with cold water finese baits though.

Re: HELP! Boat launch East Side of Susquehanna S ... (Skeet'r89)

    Guys, thanks.

Went there today. Wow, that launch is steep!!! Backed the boat in, had to hit the bildge, as the water was a bit low and with the angle of the ramp, weight of the motor, it was putting water over the stern...... They only have one ramp open, as they are doing construction for a water intake for another power plant that is 3 miles away.

So, we fished the spillway for the power plant, water temp at the launch was 48-49, the water discharge area was 58-59. No hookup, no nothing. Fished tubes, jerkbaits, a few finese worms, etc. Nothing. it looks like an awesome place for this time of year. Saw a few other boats, pulling catfish in using live baits.

While the catching was a bit disappointing, always great to try some new water and get the boat wet...

Will likely be going back.. maybe this time, to peach bottom across the river..

Depending on water levels the ramps at Peach Bottom Marina and the free public ramp in Conowingo(Mt Zoar rd.)can be very shallow. They are both on feeder creeks. Glen Cove is the best ramp on this part of the river. Located on the west bank in Harford Co. MD.

Does the launch at Glen Cove require MD license or launch sticker?

Someone told us the other day, you only needed PA license in Conowingo pool, since it is shared water. Anyone else every hear that?

I have been looking on the MD.DNR site to see if I can find some info about reciprocal license areas. It used to be that you could only fish the major body of the river with a out of the state license. No creek arms were allowed. It also was listed that you must possess a license for the state of the launch area that you used. I do not see anything in the Md. DNR site that states any of this any longer. To the best of my knowledge Glen Cove is a $10 launch fee.
I know many of the guys that fish the Potomac have VA licenses and launch from the MD side and claim to have no issues with DNR.

    I couldn't find anything either.

I did see that PA is making a large portion of the susquehanna catch and immediate release.... it is above the conowingo pool - well above harrisburg.. so, the conowingo will likely be heavily fished next year since that means NO bass tournaments in the catch and immediate releast area.
