Yamaha drops Lund, Lowe, Crestliner
Yamaha Marine Group is terminating its OEM agreements with the three aluminum boatbuilding companies being sold by Genmar Holdings Inc. to Brunswick Corp.
The company says the action is a direct result of the just-concluded $191 million deal that transfers the Lund, Lowe and Crestliner brands from the one boatbuilding giant to the other. The Yamaha decision to Âterminate and not renew each of the OEM agreements is effective June 30.
There has been speculation that a bigger percentage of the outboard business for the three companies would go to Mercury Marine now that Brunswick has completed the acquisition. Mercury is another Brunswick division.
The three Genmar companies sold nearly 25,000 boats between them last year, according to retail sales figures from Statistical Surveys Inc.
ÂTo effectively support our valued dealers who may have existing orders for Yamaha-powered Crestliner, Lund or Lowe products in place, we have offered to extend the current agreement with each of these boat companies until June 30, Yamaha president Phil Dyskow said in a statement. That means the effective date of the termination will coincide with the end of the model year, Dyskow said.
