Fair’s fair, but I can attest that it’s not weird to have a “southern” accent along the Ohio River in Ohio, so I don’t see why it would be weird or unusual for the same to occur in southern Illinois. There’s a ton of folks with southern [Kentucky and farther down] extraction in southern Ohio, Indiana, and I presume Illinois. Folks whose families always had that southern drawl and lingo, and what you hear in the home is what you carry through at least the early years of your life. Maybe the dialect in question is put on, and maybe it’s homegrown. Zona, or anyone else not from that area, is probably not suited to make the real/fake determination.
