Ok guys heres a wierd proplem for you read this!

My 01 TR20 with 225 rude ram would jump right up on plane when I first got it,then I started fish heavy weed beds & it would have a proplem with bad blow out woulded get on plane, could'nt figure out what was going on,took the prop off to clean shaft & found that weeds were getting caught up behind prop, there is around a 3/16 gap were the prop is a smaller dia. than the lower unit letting weeds get wraped up behind prop causing the exhaust to blow out the gap, My merc had a tight fit to the gear case,is this the wrong prop on my boat?It is a 13 1/2 X 25 renagade bass, this is a real pain in the a$$ to remove the prop when I idle threw some weeds it happened agian today & i was only in the weeds very little had to take it off & pull out a hand full of weeds! This has to be causing the blow out.Any ideas on this Help!

Have you tried a blow out ring?

It will reduce the space between the prop and the gearcase.

Until you get the blow out ring installed try putting the engine in neutral & goosing it to about 2000 RPMs for about a second. This might clear your prop shaft of weeds.

Have you tried a raker on this boat?

Old timers trick trim motor up untill prop is just below surface and pop it quick with throttle while in reverse, tends to make them spin off. CM

Man these weeds that we have in the Upper Chesapeake bay are tuff I don't know what they are but they are hard to rip off the prop ,they get on my Motor guide prop as soon as I touch them have to pull the motor up all day clearing out the weeds,But that's were the bass are at so I'll have to deal with it!

Sounds like you need an air boat.

I've been having this problem as well. Couldn't figure it out until it happened a couple more times. Then it was clear we had been collecting weed debris around the shaft between the prop and the housing while putting through some weed areas. Doesn't do it when going through on plane. From now on I am going to use my trolling motor to get me out into clear/deeper water before attempting to start and plane out.

The Renegade prop is a PIA where weeds are concerned due to the space between prop and gear case, but most other props do not have this space...and I never liked the 'Gade anyway. Just to put the icing on the cake, MinnKota trollers chop those weeds about 5 times more effectively than your Motorguide. I'm just a wizard at spending other people's money. Not too bad at spending my own, too.
