How often do you change water pump impellors.

I've owned 8 bass boats in my life and all of them were bought used. I have never changed a water pump or had one go out. Now I've got 1990 GT 200 Johnson and was wondering should I change the pump. I know this pump has not been changed in the last 3 years and has been fished quite a bit. Any comments appreciated, especially good ones.

I am on my second year with the same pump and was wondering the same thing. The owner before me said that it had just been changed.

3 years or 300 hours unless you run in silty water or water pressure drops.

Looks like I'm due for a water pump. I did check the bottom end oil a few minutes ago and the color is good, no milk or yellow. I think the previous owner did change the fluid every year.

Up here in Minnesota, we can only run our boats for 5 months out of the year anywayz so our waterpumps up here usually get changed every 3-4 years. Down south where you run boats all year long ( If you do fish all year long) than manufactures reccomend every year. Also, if you run in a silted up river like the missuori, mississippi in parts, you should also replace it once a year. Think of it, $45 dollar pump plus $75 for the 1 hour labor to change it out vs (worst case scenario) $3000 new powerhead due to you not changing the pump causing the motor to overheat and seize the pistons
