    Orifice/Jet Question

    I have a 1986 Johnson 200 GT (JSTLCDR200) on my Ranger 391V.

My question is, where do the intermediate jets take over from the low/idle jets?

My boat idles around 700 RPM, and when I gas it, it jumps to 1600 RPMs, and then it plows and bogs and SLLLLLLLLLLLLLOWLY climbs. When it hits 2100 RPMs it gets up and jumps on pad, but its like a 15-20 second hole shot, which should not be happening.

So, which needs to be adjusted, to give me the fuel to get up?

Also, what is involved in adjusting the jet? Can i do it myself?

    Thank you.

Make sure your linkage is set correctly first before working on your carb jets. And make sure your timing is correct too.

    Okay.

Thought the mech said that everything on that looked good when I picked it up last month.

    How did I make sure?

Got my manual, a piston stop, and some other things, and will be doing some timing and other adjustments tomorrow and friday. I pulled the jets out of the carbs, but couldn't find the number stamped on them that people keep talking about.

Get a magnifying glass on the idle and mids they are stamped on the slot side. The HS are on the smooth bore on the bowl side.

    ChampioNman,

In case you forgot, I'll refer you to my other post.

I think I have a suggestion as to what is going wrong with the motor.

Prior to my gears bugging out, and being replaced, I had no "bog" on the motor at any RPM. When the mech replaced the gears, he did not have the lower exhaust gasket/seal in stock, and told me to put silicone around it in its place (Part #0320961). Well, my silicone did not hold. I have black exhaust marks all over the lower half of my engine, as well as two big marks right where the seal would go in the crack between the lower unit and midsection. I mean, a lot of exhaust is coming out where it really isn't supposed to.

I work with chainsaws, and I know that if the breather screen is not clear of exhaust, the engine will sometimes not start, and if it does, will not rev properly.

What are the odds that this massive backup of exhaust is effecting my RPM midrange (1600-2100).

Thanks. Just trying to get this issue out of the way before I get back to the timing and linkage. Ordered the seal tonight, by the way.
