    1985 150XP Very High Idle

I just bought a cheap ($1000) Shadow 200VT with a 1985 XP 150 on it. Model E150STLCOS J0577998 Was told it had not been run in 2 years. it started right up at home on the hose and idled fine, but smoked alot and was dumping alot of fuel/oil out thru the prop. Also a small leak at the bottom of the exhaust plate. After it run for a few minutes it rev'ed up to 4500-5000 rpm. Shut it off, did a compression check, all between 85-90 psi, found 3 different types of plugs in it! Put 6 new plugs and tightened the bolts on the exhaust plate. The exhaust plate has been off at some time because it has RTV around the edge of it, heads dont appear to have ever been off, gaskets still has the factory paint on it. started it back up, went straight to 4500 rpm, throttle plates are closed, still dumping alot of fuel out the exhaust. Have sprayed carb cleaner around the exhaust plate and carb/manifold without any change in rpm. Any ideas? Thanks, james

One idea is don't run it at that high of an RPM on the hose. You'll burn up your powerhead in a hurry!!!

As for the fix, you came to the right place, my friend (you'll just have to wait for someone above my pay grade to getcha some answers)!

This one is above my head. However, I would check the primer solenoid, and recirc lines for leaks.

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.
