Where on the Kissimmee Chain

If you had to fish a tournament out of Camp Macks the first week in March where would you head? My father and I are going to fish the Coast Guard tournament there and neither of us have ever fished down in Central Florida. Where would be the place to go? Stay in Kissimmee? Run north to Toho? Is there someplace that we'd be better off concentrating on. We'll be in my father's 17ft Ranger with a 115hp on it so we don't have the ability for any extreme runs. I'd have to assume that the Big O is out of the question. It's a two day tournament though so we do have the option of playing in more than one area. We plan on practicing two days prior to the tournament early that week but any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks.

Stay in Kissimmee - lots of good fishing in that lake. Also look at Hatchineha. Fish should will be in the middle of the spawn so think shallow hard bottom with sparse vegetation - pads and pickeral weed can be especially good - sepecially the smaller isolated stuff.

Toho is a long run fora 17' boat with a 115 plus there is a lock. The fishing will generally be just as good if not better in Kissimmee.

Looking forward to having you join us this year! Most boats will be in the kissimmee, hatchineha, and cypress lakes. You cannot lock out of lake Kissimme into the river on the south end, so that should help eliminate some water. Some folks will lock into Lake Toho, but usually most prefer to maximize their time by fishing the middle three lakes. With the majority fishing in Kissimmee. It is a fun tournament with generally around 25 teams, many have fished this event for 5,10,15 years. It is a great chance to catch up with some old friends, while making new ones.
Any questions feel free to ask, I will be setting up the meeting and running the event this year as our normal Director has Coast Guard committments he has to attend. Be sure to be at registration ( cash only for registration-DO NOT Pre enter thru MWR) between 3pm and 4pm, with the rules and boat draws (for order of take off) beginning roughly at 4pm on wednesday March 7.

Thanks Chief,

I was wondering if you were going to make it down this year after being transferred up to no mans land! Looking forward to finally meeting you and several others that I know will be arriving.

We set up our room today. Looks like Liars Motel has a decent number of rooms still available. We'll be arriving early Monday morning and plan on fishing all week. I'd love to make it down over the weekend but I'm having to drive from Jacksonville up to Charleston to pick up my father and his boat. His tow vehicle finally gave up on him.

It'll be my first time fishing the event, but both my father and I have been around bass tournaments for quite a while. Hopefully we'll be able to get on some fish and make a decent showing. If not it will be fun just to get to fish a tournament with my old man again!

At least one team member must possess a valid military ID. The dates are the 8th and 9th of March.

Re: Where on the Kissimmee Chain (skydever)

Im really starting to dislike florida, They keep screwing up these lakes with that stupid spray. I went to Rousseau and the whole east lake was not worth fishing because of the spraying, An FWC office came up to take a survey and did I ever give him some suggestions to write down. You would really think that the FWC could find something better to spend all that money on, like maybe building restrooms and not blue porta-poopers, extending more ramps while the north florida water levels are down. Did anyone see the hook-n-look tv program this weekend where they were diving in a lake that had just been sprayed? The bottom of the lake in and near the sprayed areas were just one big toxic cloud.

Re: Where on the Kissimmee Chain (rangerjason)

Yeah, that spraying on the 14th and 15th could really hurt the fishing on Kissimee for our tournament! With a full moon on the first day of the tournament we would normally be concentrating on site fishing for spawners, but I wonder if the spraying wont have the fish holding a little farther out due to the grass dying. Decaying grass will sure pull some oxygen out of the shallows. Deeper grass beds usually fair a little better so the trap bite offshore might be the way to go. Guess we'll have to see what happens

I would hit the west shore with a toad. Look for the "A" Frame house and stay around that area. Also, school bus "just out of the canal on the left" are a bunch of pads. They can be on fire that time of the year. GL and send me a IM if you want more info...

Badge368- Check with Capt Bullet on here see if he is still in need of a partner. I believe he meets the requirements. Just a thought, we may look into the a rule change for this in the future, but as of right now members must posess one of the ID cards to meet the eligibility requirements.
