Key West

Has anyone on here ever been and fished in the Florida Keys? i will probably be vacationing down there in July. I want to charter a boat for some inshore fishing. would love to get a tarpon on the flats. Also looking to go snorkling to spear fish or catch some lobsters.

Just trying go catch something that i havent already caught over here in LA.

and if anyone has any other suggestions for the keys, let me know. I have caught probably everything there is to catch in Louisiana, except a tarpon or a lobster

Islamorada is the place for fishing and diving. Key west is a party island.

This to an extent but there is a TON of fishing out of Key West also. I am not sure but I don't think July is a good time for Tarpon. They can be caught about anytime of year but there are better times than others. I would call around to some guides and just find out what will be biting then and go for that.

I do know in that in order to spearfish you have to be certified. It is a seperate certification than just the open water diver cert. At least this is what the captain told me on my last diving adventure there. I dove the Looe Key Marine Sactuary and is was AMAZING.

thanks for the responses. I plan to Free Dive. I heard the same about Key West being the party town. Not to sure if we are going to go to one of the other islands. thanks again.

Personally I would look into the 10,000 isalnds area such as Everglades Natl park/ Chokoloskee area in the SW corner of the state. I would find a guide down in that area to due some inshore/back bay fishing. Then hop on down to Islamorda and do an offshore trip while staying at the Tiki Bar (if its still open), then grab a guide out of Marathon to fish for tarpon/grouper/and snapper under the 7 mile bridge. You can find access to all these types of fishing directly out of Islamorda, though its a pretty good boat ride from there to get into some really good inshore (reds/trout) fishing.Good luck.

ALso I believe July is when the Lobster mini season begins and the florida Keys can be an absolute nightmare during those two days! Very fun time to party on the sandbarss though...Bring a camera!!!

I lived in Key West for 3 years. There is plenty of fishing out of Key West, there's just also plenty of partying to do do afterward. July is just as good as any other time for tarpon. Check out Capt. Neil Bohannon.

Mini Season is 3 days of ridiculousness on the water down there.
