    Catch and release

    Hi everyone,

New to the forums and BBC. We will be looking for real estate in the Osceola and Polk county areas. Hopefully we'll have better luck than we did in the Fort Myers area. When we did find a place we liked, it would be discovered that it had the drywall problem.

I grew up in close by in Hardee county and know the area around Lake Wales fairly good. We will be looking from Lake Wales to Loughman and would like some info about the lakes in the area.

Is there a site that can tell us which lakes are totally catch and release? We read on the state's site about catch limits and when they were changed, but couldn't find out for sure where you could take a keeper home from.

Anyhow, hope to see you guys soon. If someone knows a good real estate agent in the lake wales area that could put us on a mailing list, shoot us a tell.

I'm pretty sure unless it is a pit lake or something else private, there are no catch and release only lakes

true, i think, but there are some that have very restrictive size ( slot ) limits

    Re: Catch and release (ROBODOM)

There are 5 lakes listed on this page. Are they state run or national parks? There are more if you look go through the regional listings, but its time consuming. Would be nice if they could sort it out and lake underhill is listed here.

    Re: Catch and release (Tenbears)

Welcome back, and hello from Hardee County. The onlypublic lake that has any restrictions near Lake Wales is Walk in Water. All bass between 15" and 24" must be released. One fish over 24" may be kept but that is it. The state checks it pretty regular. Lake Istokpoga in Highlands County has the restrictions as well. We had a place on Walk in Water for 30 years, sold back several years ago love that place. I did notice some places for sale on Walk in Water while practicing for our tournament. When did you leave Hardee?

    Re: Catch and release (Rico)

    Heyo,

We left in 74 when I started high school. So much has changed since then in the area. I grew up in Bowling Green and lived on Wilkerson road. Not sure if the spelling is right on that. At that time, I had relatives in Avon Park and Lake Wales.

So many lakes with so many regulations, it was confusing for us. Are you guys getting any rain?

    Re: Catch and release (Tenbears)

Thats neat. I know exactly where Wilkerson is but I was still in Lakeland when you left the area. All of my family is from here but my parents moved to Lakeland in the late 60's when dad was working for the railroad. We moved back here in 79. I have lived in Bowling Green since I was 18 when I went to work for Bowling Green Police Dept. Rain has been hit and miss, Sunday night we got almost 5", since then very little. We need a lot more it is still very dry. The regs on the lakes here are pretty clear cut except for the two I mentioned. The rest all have normal state regs without slot limits. Some of the phosphate pits that are classified as fish management areas are also catch and release, but they are not public waters. Hope I didn't confuse you. Welcome back.
