    New to the Area

Hey Y'all!! I just took a promotion and will be moving to the Jacksonville area and at present, I am looking for a place to live. I might be here for up to 5 years (wife and daughter are staying in VA/DC) and I am debating pulling my bass boat down from Virginia. I don't want to buy and it would be really nice to have a place on or near the water but I have no idea where to look (where the best fishing is anyway). I've seen a lot of rental houses on the ICW reasonable and I'm willing to go as far South as St Augustine but my office is going to be in the Baymeadows area and it would be nice to be somewhat close. Any tips? I'm looking forward to meeting some Southern Strain BBC'ers and I even have a bunch of my gear here with me right now. So who want's to teach a Virginia fishing guide how to Florida fish I'll bring all the Senko's!!

Scott, having evacuated that area three years ago, I can give you a list of folks down there to stay away from. Let's see...... first is a guy that goes by the name of TeamFATBOY, he's a real shady character!!! Let's see, then thier's........

You're gonna love living down there, great people and great fishing! Give it a few minutes and some of the folks down that way will give you the scoop. Good luck, enjoy!

Look for a house in Mandarin. you would be 5 minutes from thr st johns river and 1 hour from Kingsley lake and lake Sante Fe , lake Sampson and 1/12 hours from Rodman Dam, Lochloosa, Orange lake in G-ville....I should know i live in Mandain. also Baymeadows is only 10 minutes Max from mandarin.

You need to SLOW DOWN Skeeter-E!

That would probably be your best bet toxic. It's a good location for both fishing and getting to work fairly quickly. If you want to live on the water it's going to be hard to find, and cost some serious $$$.

Welcome! Like skeeter said there are several great fishing locations around the area. I have always had better fishing in the river down around Palatka south to Big Lake George. I own a home repair business and do a lot of work for realitors and renter companies. I know of several homes on the river that are for rent and they all go for about $1,200 a month rent. I do not know what is in you budget for rent.

But these locations are good for fishing and not for you drive to work. I do not know where you office is but it takes me 45-50 minutes to get to Baptist South. If you have any questions just send a email.

    Thanks for the welcome.

I'm staying in Palm Coast right now and it is a little too far South.....I've seen lots of "on the water" with covered docks/lifts, etc., in the JAX area for under a thousand a month. I just am wondering which "on the water" places are the best for fishing. (ICW/St Johns/inland lake?) Also there are a lot of neighborhood associations and HOA's that won't allow boats in the driveway and I've got a 20+ footer so, unless it's got real special garage, my rig won't fit and I don't want to put it in storage. I have a hard time being BBT for too long!! So some of you will have to step up to the plate and get me out before I go stir crazy!!

I live in Mandarin on the north side of Julington Creek right off of Julington Creek Road. There are two boat ramps in the area. Clarks Fish Camp on Hood Landing (also good food) & Mandarin Park. My Gambler sits in the driveaway and I swear I could win the lottery & not move. I am right up the street from the river. I also work @ Baymeadows & I95. It is a "PRIMO" location and there are rentals in the area for around $1000 a month for a 1600 to 2000 sq ft house with a nice yard . I will keep an eye out & see what is available. Look me up if you make it up this way.

Re: New to the Area (JaxGambler)

Dude, I'm sittin in JAX right now. Getting ready to head back to Palm Coast in a few. I am here for good unless I go back to get my boat and/or visit the family. I really would like to pull the boat down since I won't be able to get back home every weekend. Thanks for keeping an eye out.
