    1999 FICHT running (not) issue

    I have twin 1998 FICHT 175's (with 1999/2000 powerheads) on my boat and one of them has developed a running problem. After sitting up for almost two seasons, it started and ran like a purring kitten on the first try. After running for almost 15 minutes, she sputtered out and didn't want to re-start. I have been able to re-start her and make her run a few times since but never for more than a few minutes. Here are the things that I have experienced and/ or tried:

    1) Have two engines and #2 runs great so probably not a fuel quality issue. Drained tanks prior to original re-start and filled with fresh gas.

    2) Can still get it to run intermittently so I know I am getting fire to the plugs.

    3) According to a mechanic at the storage lot, he replaced the fuel pump and filter.

    4) I personnally checked the plugs and found them relatively fouled so I replaced them (.030 gap)

    5) This is a pinned head.

    6) If I fog the engine with de-carb, it fires up and runs until de-carb is gone. Did this three times.

    7) No warning lights and/ or alarms before during or after stalling out.

    Any ideas on where I should check next other than taking her in for a computer hook-up, I am all ears. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you guys may have.

    Hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the rail pressure fitting and monitor the fuel pressure per the service manual. If that tests OK, then you will need the diagnostic software to check out the rest of the systems, or hire a trained FICHT mechanic.

    Seahorse-

    Thanks for the information. The jackleg mechanic who said he replaced the fuel pump also said I probably needed a new ECU. Since it's firing when it has fuel to burn, I have a hard time thinking it's the ECU. This is also the same guy who said I needed a new helm because it was non function. It's amazing how well those things work if you actually bleed the air out of the lines...
