Garmin 93SV chirp problem shutting off

Hi guys, i just recently purchased the new model 93SV with Chirp. I installed it originally with power going through the fuse block. After a couple hours running it would shut itself down. I would restart it and a bit later it would repeat. After reading about similar problems, it was stated to run a separate wire direct to the battery. I ran new 14 awg with a new fuse directly to the battery and even removed everything else and put is as first contact to the batter. This weekend was the first test and it did the same thing as before. I saw other complaints of shut off when the outboard was started. This is not the case. The battery is a brand new DEKA installed when i had my new SHO installed. Could it be too small of a cranking battery and a voltage drop problem or something else?

    Thoughts?

Yes, as shelfish indicated, install the latest 4.10 update that was just released. See related discussion in this thread:

I will give it a shot and try this weekend and update everyone. I guess i figured a new out of the box unit would be up to date.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

I've got the same problem, purchased three units at the end of Dec ( 2 93 SV's and a 73 DV), one 93 up front and one at the console, bow unit ran a couple of hours and shut off, happened several times throughout the day and since then, updated the unit (3.80 at the time) and reset to factory settings, problem continued, thought it might be electrical so I switched it with the console unit, but problem continued, currently waiting on a response from Garmin....this and the terrible map coverage make me kind of miss my old H-Birds

Ran the update, fished the last 3 days running all accessories trying to duplicate a tournament scenario and it ran perfectly. Glad it was just a software issue.

    Thanks for the guidance.

No such luck for me, if anything it's worse, stayed on bout an hour then shut off, powered back on and it lasted maybe five minutes, repeat, repeat and finally just left it off....

I've been in contact with Garmin, we'll see....

Make sure the software install "took".
From HOME screen SETTINGS->SYSTEM->SYSTEM INFORMATION->SOFTWARE INFORMATION.
You should see the version #.## there. Should say 4.10

If it does, you'll have to deal with tech support about a repair/replacement. Most seem to report that the software update has worked for them.
My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

Yes, please verify 4.10 is installed.

Also, does the unit freeze/lock up then shut down, or does it just immediately shut off?

4.10 is installed, I also reset to factory specs while I checked....

I have seen it freeze maybe once, most of the time the screen will "flicker" and distort before shutting off...

New to BBC, thought I would put in my two cents. Purchased 93SV in January, just recently got around to installation. When I tried the unit, started using the pre-loaded maps, unit started flickering and after less than a minute shut off. It would not do this if I unplugged the sonar from the back of the head. As long as sonar cable was detached, unit would stay on. First call to Garmin support, update to 4.10. Did not fix. Second call to Garmin support, must be transducer - we will send you a new one. Did not work. Third call to Garmin support, must have a power problem, remove unit and wire directly to your car battery that you know is good. Did not work. Fourth call to Garmin, must be in the head - will send you a new head. So far this seems to have taken care of the problem. Going to go ahead with final installation and try out Memorial weekend. Garmin support has been very nice working with me, truly trying to find the problem. Also said that they did not think it would be in the head because they did not have these issues on other units. Sounds a lot like what some of you are going through. I am a little disappointed that I have to pay shipping to get parts back to them they sent me, but it is stated in the warranty. Hope this helps.

The board is littered with Echomap issues, I really regret I made the switch, still waiting on a RMA from Garmin to send in the defective unit....

Had the same problem. Since updating I haven't experienced it again, but I haven't fished an 8hr tx in the boat since i updated so we will see. So far ive run it for up to 5 hours with no problems.

Just an update, got an RA# from Garmin on 5/23, waited until 6/1 to ship in the defective unit (while on vacation), they received and sent out a new unit on 6/6, at the house when we got back from vacation yesterday. I would say they didn't even attempt a repair, just replaced, which is fine with me. Need to update the software, be on the water tomorrow....

They have been pretty easy to deal with, although it can be time consuming to reach somebody or get a response....
