Finaly back in a bass boat,New boat to me javelin Renegade

Well after about 7 years of of not having a bass boat and fishing from a 12ft jon boat i am glad to be back .I had previously owned a 1986 pro craft 1750 with a 115 johnson but sold it do to some obligations i had .

Then finally a friend of mine priced his old boat to me for a good price as he just got a New Ranger and i could not pass it up for the price. The boat is a 1999 Javelin Renegade 19 with a 175 Johnson,Power lift jack plate,Min kota maxxium trolling motor,Hotfoot,Lowrance sonar,.The boat has some minor issues like needing the the driving seats Reupholstered a good buffing and wax,And replacing the Decals. But for the price i got it for i think i done ok $5,800

But i found this site and thought i would join to try and get some questions answered as this boat is a big upgrade from the old 84 model boat i had.For instance the speedo does not work ,the trim guage does work and the zerocom fish finder in the center console does not work .So i thought i would ask you guys what i should look for to try and find out what the issue was. These are minor things to me but would be nice to fix.

Thats a nice boat I would leave the speedo and the zerocom in there place so you don't have to fill the hole's . The speedo meters usually are way off . I would buy a used gpsunit and ram mount on the driver consel . The trim i would fix it ...C&O Marine will probally have the gauge if it 's broke ! I would check at the motor and see if it's still hooked up .

    Very nice boat, great price!!

Something to check, on the front of your lower unit there may be a hole that gets clogged up with wood. Take a very small drill bit (not attached to a drill) in your fingers and just turn it into the hole to clear out any wood chunks. May be a very cheap fix for your speedometer problem. Good luck.

Speedomoter I would not worry about because most boats tend to have a very INaccurate speedomoter. When my speedomoter was working it was 5 mph faster than my GPS. If you do want to attempt to fix it on the center line of the lower unit mid way down there will be a small hole. Make sure the hole is clean because they are bad about picking up debris/wood. As said earlier HAND turn a small drill bit to remove debris or straighten a fish hook and insert the point and sometimes the barb will grab hold of debris when pulling out. If hole is clean take dash panel loose and unhook tubing. Put a air hose to either the lower unit hole or end of tubing, when you hit it with a burst of air it should come out the other end. If air comes through your speedomoter is bad...no air flow you still have blockage. NEVER use a power drill and bit to clean lower unit speedomoter pick up because if your drill to hard you will go through the case and drill into the lower unit and hit oil...then you have a bad day.

Zercom flasher...time to break out a voltmeter and see if you have power. Mine is not wired to a master power switch. I can turn it on at any time. Most boats have them wired so the master power switch has to be on in order for the flasher to come on. A volt meter will let you know if/when you have power.

Trim gauge...trim motor all the way up then look for the sending unit. It should have a plastic arm that will touch the motor as it goes up and down. That plastic arm is spring loaded make sure it is moving...a shot of wd 40 once per year want hurt. If spring is moving get a volt meter and set it on ohms. Move the spring and touch the leads to the wires on the back of the gague. If gauge is working your resistance reading will change.

As for the seats they are very easy to remove. The center section on the butt and back are held in place with velcro. The center sections are a VERY tight fit. Stick your finger inside the seam and give the removable section a pull then you have easy access to the bolts that attach the seats to the boat.

I have owned my 1999 Javelin Renegade 19 since 2001. I hope to own it for another 11 years or longer. That hull is a perfect fit for the type of water that I fish. Set up properly that boat with a 175 will do mid to upper 60's with a light load and good conditions. Plus it jumps out of the hole very quick and turns like it is on rails. Owning that particular boat for over 11 years I have been all over the ins and outs of it. Feel free to ask any questions you want and if I know the answer I will help you out.

To see a picture of mine look in the Javelin owners picture gallery. Mine is the white one trimmed in blue. It is posted with my old user name GB

Thank you for the welcome everyone.I really enjoy the boat so far.I took it out for a quick test ride and it handles really well .I had a small miss when you would first start to take off and go WOT but i think it may have been where it sat for 6 months with no use .So i am putting new gas in ,New plugs and cleaning the carbs out today. It can not be much as when i first put it on the water it ran fine all day until i started to come home. But motor starts perfect is quite no noises so it is nothing major .

I Am going to do my best to start tracing down some of those issues i mentioned and get it her up in top shape before spring. But the only thing i am not sure of on the boat is if i will like the Hot foot. This thing takes some getting used to .it took me a few tries to finally get her loaded on the trailer compared to using the handle i am so familiar with .It just seems to me to put my foot in a awkward angle i may try to slide it back a little farther

yes just a few minor things to fix but for it's age it is expected to have some things to address. My goal is to get everything fixed by spring and be on the water for some tournament fishing.

O yes it is almost the exact color as my truck so when they are both cleaned up should look good.Just need to get some new tires for the truck but damn they are high lol

thanks once again guys,Question where could a man find a owners manual or some replacement Decals for the boat.I seem to keep finding switches and have no clue what some of them do lol.

Good news is i have Put new plugs in ,Flushed the motor ,cleaned the carpet and getting ready to put new pedestal seats in right now and fill the power steering fluid up, that stuff is high though i think it was priced 22$ a quart But it needs to be done.
