Mine is a '99 and I removed the metal plate between the seats against the gas tank. The hose connection was right there, but the hose was held in place with zip ties that I could not reach. I left the old line laying there and ran the new line to the back of the boat, piece of cake! I also carpeted over the metal plate, it was kinda worn looking. Hope that works on yours.
Forgot to mention the line I used was a bit smaller than the old line. On the advice of the Mercury Guru I just heated up some water in a cup and held the end of the line in it for about 45 seconds. It went on slicker than snot on a door knob. Good Luck
