    problems with fuel gauge

i'm not for sure if this is where i should post this question but here it is. My fuel gauge only rises about an 1/8 of an inch when i turn on the ignition. I know i have roughly around a half tank of fuel. Being that the only thing related to the gauge is the sending unit , can any one tell me which one is the problem or how to troubleshoot it. I posted on the electronics forum with no response. My boat is a 2000 stratos 19ss extreme if info is needed. Any help , thanks.

Re: problems with fuel gauge (TSnively)

Probably the sending unit, but, I would start by cleaning all of the connections. You can pull the sending unit and stroke it to see if the dash gauge tracks along. If not, definitely points to the sending unit. Sometimes, you can use some 1200 grit and clean up the small coiled wire in the sending unit, aka the rheostat. If you decide to replace the unit, go with the ultra sound units. Much more reliable and accurate.
