Re: couple of questions about stratos/javelins??? (ragin_cajun92)

They went composite in I think 99.Look for a mid 90's and newer Jav- Strat, I think they look better than the older ones. Most all of them were fine boats, with a lemon here and there like all boats.

J/E Venom-Intruder carbed motors are tough as nails great motors, the OMC made late 90's ficht 150/175 werent so good, the BRP made motors were good. The J/S boats run like a raped ape with a John/Rude motor, they were made for each other like peanutbutter and jelly.

I have a 2000 Jav Renegade 19 dc and love it.. I t has a little sticker on the transom saying All Composite Construction. so I assume it has no wood but you never know. as far the Rudes go I have a 150 Ram Ficht that had considerable work done to it by the original owner while it was still warranted. 2 powerheads a stator and new EMM. but knock on wood mine has performed flawlessly for almost 4 years.. But I do take good care of it with Sea Foam treatment and new plugs and WP every year. It will run in the low sixties (GPS) and no jackplate with a full load.

I have a Ficht on my Strat. It has been the best outboard I have owned so far. I have no regrets at all!. Seems to match up perfect with my boat. It stays clean and so far has been pretty easy to maintain.

You shouldn't be scared as long as you have a fat wallet, cause they love some liquid gold.
But I have to say I like mine better than I thought I would. Yes it sucks gas and its kinda cold natured but its dependable and has plenty of power.
I believe the 150-175 had the problems, not the higher hp models.

The 93-98 Javelins were the best IMO. They came loaded, 99-02 were great too, but were more bare bones wth less bells and whistles. Most all mid 90-current Stratos is good. A few of the late 90's SS model Strats had hull problems.

The Javelin 379,389, and 400 were awesome rigs.

    Re: (ragin_cajun92)

If it has an Evinrude Intruder or Johnson Fast strike(same motor different color/sticker) IMHO best motor ever built.... if taken care of they will take care of you....they are bullet proof and full of torque!
I have a 94 Javelin and quiet honestly and not meaning to knock anyones boat, but the quality in my boat compared to other boats in that era are impressive.
You here people saying the Javelins were the low end boat's, I don't see it in the year models we are speaking of... I liked the Javelins way better than the Strato's until they changed the boat totally not sure what year that was (98-99?)
My point is on the Javelin 379,389,409 etc... look at the boat real good then look at a 2010 Strato's... not the graphics but the overall lines etc...

My 1994 Javelin 389 (bad picture sorry)

Another BBC members 2007 200 closest new one I could find to my color.

Re: couple of questions about stratos/javelins??? (jav389)

I have a 94 stratos 284 with a evinrude 150 intruder, I love this boat. My plan was to trade up every couple years till I got a nearly new one, I've had this one for 4 years now and just cant bring myself to get rid of it. It looks nearly new and runs like new so I just updated the TM,and electronics and I have a (new) 94 model, I'll probally trade it in a couple years, but then again if it aint broke dont fix it.

Re: couple of questions about stratos/javelins??? (ragin_cajun92)

I found this page in the web archives, and 1998 was the first year of the ALL Composite hulls. It has all the specs for 1998 Javelin BassBoats. One crazy thing though, when you look at the pictures of the boats in the individual specs, most have the concole on the LEFT SIDE in the overhead view. Pretty crazy to say the least. Doesn't really matter, the large pictures are correct.

I have a 1997 389TE and it is a great boat. If anything ever happened to it, I would not hesitate buying another Javelin.
    Enjoy!!!
