Boats priced below fair market value are usually going to be in rough condition, have more than usual hours on the motor, or both.

I agree to an extent. However i look at prices of boats that have actually sold, not those that have been listed for an extended period of time. There are tons of 15's that are listed for 50k+ and they just arent selling. The price we had agreed on on this boat was below market value and should have been a red flag for me, but i was excited and overlooked it. Thank goodness i didnt let the excitement overtake my good judgement and bring that boat home. After i pointed out all the hundreds of issues he started trying to negotiate the price even lower and i just had to say i wasnt interested in the boat. I was going to put a new motor on it so the 400ish hours didnt bother me, but i couldnt get past all the rest
They aint got hands, set the hook
Sorry to hear about this Fishin. Boats get used hard but you still need to maintain them, sounds like this is beyond the norm. I wouldn't let it bother you too much as there are a ton of really great used boats out there. Just look at it like a BS crazy girl you were going to break up with cheated on you and now you get another chance to find a good one!

I feel your pain... when I was shopping for a boat last fall with a small budget, I spent 2 months driving all over the place looking at boats that were in "great shape" that looked like something I would leave at the curb for the garbage man to pick up. Massive transom cracks, rot, mangled interiors, destroyed hulls etc. 2 of my best memories from that time were A) when I went to sit in the driver's seat on a boat and it tore right off the mount and I fell on my ass and B) When a guy assured me the hideous transom crack repair was professionally done and hasn't caused any problems turned in to an 8 inch gaping crack I could put my finger through when I put my weight on the foot. Thankfully he had gone back in the house while I was inspecting the boat so I just jumped in my truck and left lol!
I finally found the one though, and this year she performed flawlessly and had the best year of fishing in my life! The trim seals appear to be going unfortunately and is very slowly leaking trim oil (I had to refill the oil in October after using it since May), but for a 2005 boat, she is SUPER clean.
