Removing 2nd Console Question

I have a 1988 Stratos 181-PRO dual console. I'd like to recover space taken up by 2nd console. Is there any downside to cutting out (it appears molded in) and removing it? If it's OK to remove, what's the best tool for the job?

A sawzall will do it.....but......the older boat will loose structural integrity in the port side of the boat....there will be a big void where the old console was.
