Looking at a used 2000 model with a 00 Evinrude 225 outboad,
I have read this is a bad hull for Stratos. I would like other opinions on this boat or combo from the forum.
Thanks
Brian

i hav heard that the fichts from that year werent the greatest
2003 Stratos 200 Pro XL / 2003 225 HO
I think I am going to pass on this boat. Too many bad posts on the SS hulls. That and 00 Ficht motors did have some issues, although some of them are still going strong. Too many strikes on this one.
i had one with the 225 fitch. the boat was terrible and the motor sucked as well. stratos was having big issues around that time. my boat the "LEAN" and was told by stratos that they needed to replace the hull. however they never would do it. i sold the boat and said i would never by a stratos again. oh, well i lied about not ever getting a stratos again but back then there customer service was terrible. the fitch was fine when it was running. not very strong, but fuel efficent. i went through 3 lower units in about 9 months. 2 of them busted in the exact same curve in the river. they told me to not go in that curve anymore. got to the point in one tourny i was running up the river and when i got to that curve i slowed to an idle and idled about a mile. my partner was wondering was the H&*&^ was going on. told him it was a long story
That's a funny story Michael. I think I'd just find somewhere else to fish.
But to add to this for those that may not know all about the history of Stratos, this was a tough time for both of those companies, which were owned by OMC. OMC eventually went bankrupt, with other companies buying up the remains. Genmar purchased Stratos and has done a phenominal job rebuilding the brand and developing new things. Evinrude was purchased by Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) who has likewise, turned it into an amazing product.
The Extreme boats I've been around (19's, 20's, and 21's) were all good performing boats. The 19 was a screamer and the 21 rode great. My Ficht experience (limited only to a '99 150 and '00 200) was also very good, so you will hear different things. There is quite a bit of bad press about them though, so it tarnishes the good comments.
What I'm saying is don't let those products steer you, or anyone reading this post, away from a Stratos or Evinrude. Things are different now.![]()

Good point. I would have no hesitation buying a stratos with an Evinrude.
I think this 21 SS might not be the boat for me...

i know a couple who has the 99 and 2000 ss models in 19 and 21 with the ficht motors that have run well and been as trouble free as any,you can can probably call c&o and they may know if the hull needed replaced,by the hull s.n.if the motor has ran this long with no major problems i wouldn't have a problem.one of my old partners had a 200 on tr 20 and that sumbuck would flat get it and was easy on gas.
I've had mine about 2 yrs. Bought it used w/300 hrs. on it. DC 21SS 225 ficht. It does lay to the left coming out but once on plane it goes fine. Huge front deck & rides great. High 60's loaded 2 big people full load. I like boat & love the ride.More to maintain then my old 80 Merc but its worth my effort IMHO. Any Questions just IM.
