Try out a merc bravo prop on your 201

If you aren't looking for the "fastest" prop for your 201, then you should try to borrow a bravo to try out. They work great for tournaments and load carrying capabilities. The hole shot is incredible and the mid range acceleration is amazing also. You will lose 2-3 mph on top but it will not lose much if any with a full load.
You will cut 2 or more seconds off the hole shot and out accellerate most boats through the mid range. The bravo needs the dual 1" holes and cupping added to the blade tips but hang on to your hat! I'm very impressed if you can't tell. I have only run it 1 time so there is more room to play with set up. Try one if you can.
I owe a special thanks to Mike Lohan "21xdc" for the suggestion..he's very sharp
on props and set up and willing to help out with solid advice.

I'd love to get my hands on one to try on my rig, just to see what it would do.

From what Marc Croxton told me about that prop, it seems like you need to work on that set-up a little more and you should gain the top end back. He told me that would probably be the fastest prop I could run. He said it would have great load carrying like you said. I have been trying to find one to try.
What did it do to your rpms from the other prop you ran? I turn a 29 Yamaha T-1 to 5700-5800 at 77-79 mph now, depending on load, and would love to try one an see if I can get it to carry the load enough to get close to 80 loaded.
Does it make it any harder to drive with the extra lift, or can it run flatter to not chine as bad?
I heard that Marc is supposed to have a way of getting more cup than before put in his props, so I am going to have a little more cup put in the T-1 this winter to see if that will help me carry without as much trim.

Re: Try out a merc bravo prop on your 201 (201pro)

I was running a 27" Tr04 @5800 r's and getting 75ish. Running the 26" bravo, the rpms stayed at 5800 and speed dropped to 72.4. But that was without playing with engine height..I know I can go up because my h20 pressure was @20 lbs. Nathan at Hydrotech says that a good indicator of proper engine height is to have the water pressure at 17 - 18 lbs.The boat handles about the same but does require more positve trim for bow lift.I know Mark could change that issue. I will say that the overall performance is very impressive...especially the hole shot. For running and gunning or running a river like I do, this thing seems to be the ticket. A little more time will tell more.My hull is a 1994 with a replaced composite transom, so the newer hulls may be even better. I may go out tomorrow and will update the numbers if I go.

Question-What propshaft height are you running the Bravo at and are you using a lot of positive trim? I have a 21XL Magnum hull and have been working at finding the correct height. It is a real bear to drive at 3 inches below with my hull. And, I totally agree, the hole shot and mid range is unbelievable. Mike Lohn is to be commended for his original thinking and of course, Mark, for his workmanship.
