How to use Livewell Controls and Valve

I have the V1 valve with two options. Open/Closed. Then on the console I have the starboard/port fill and SB/Port Recirc and timer.

What steps are you all taking in operating the livewell? My other boat had three positions and want to make sure I am doing this correctly.

Close em off...fill em up. Then run the recirc and timer. Maybe pump some fresh water in a couple times during the day. .

If it's super duper hot, I ice my livewells before getting to the lake, then fill them after the first fish and just run the timer without bringing in new water to keep them cool.

Are you saying the valve should be closed and then fill?

Yes, it is better to close it and then fill it. You can fill it in the open position, but more times than I would like to recall I would not close it and when I would run my water would drain out and fish would be flopping around or die if long run. So, with this said, close it then fill it. Once filled to the desired level, turn on the recirculator pump.

I close the valves and fill my livewells. then:

If the water temps are 70 degrees or cooler, I turn my auto fill on and leave it all day. if i have a full livewell, i may turn on my recircuation pumps on auto as well.

If the water temps are above 70, I turn on my recirculation pumps on manual (run continuously). I add ice when needed. I look in the livewells periodically and determine if i need to change the water. If i change the water, i put all fish in one side and drain at least 2/3 of that well then refill, add ice and chemicals. once done, i move all fish to that well, and do the same to the other side. (that is if i'm not in a draw format tournament)

Go to BASS website and search the information booklet there written by Gene Gilliland. It will tell you exactly how you should care for your fish.
