2003 Johnson 115

The motor '03 (07/2002) Johnson 115

I bought this boat last week and took it out today for the first time. It has what seems to be the original aluminum prop. The hole shot is great. I've only owned Mercury engines in the past and hated every one of them. Its neat to have an engine that starts and idles without feeling like its gonna shake off the boat.

My question is.....With the boat wide open and trimmed up as far as I feel safe, the tac was reading about 5900-6000. I'm thinking this is a little high for this engine. I don't have the owners manual, so I don't know what my range should be. Also, knowing this, can you guys recommend the proper pitch ss prop for this setup.

I used to own a '98 115 SPL and the optimum range was between 5000-5500 RPMs. The prop I found to run best was a Raker 18. This was on an aluminum boat. Since you are running a fiberglass hull, you may see better results with a Raker 20.

Thanks for the reply Mig. I'm wondering if there is anyone here who would know which ss prop would have come with this boat back in '03. Without a jackplate and all the hopups the bigboys can add, I'm guessing that there was just one prop that they stuck with. I'm sure it was a raker brand because you are the 4th person who mentioned this brand.
