Come on Championman--The guy needs your help--I thought you were here to help???
If it is a 1998, then you would need the System Check wiring harness.
NOT the one with the big red plug at the engine end. Check to see what you have under the hood of the engine. If you have a red plug, then it is not newer than 1996....
This might help.

if its a 140 and it says vro on it, its not a 1998, sorry brother. the only 140's made after the '96 modular wire changeover were the suzukirude four stroke engines. i'd look and see if there were a welch plug in the block with a serial number stamped on it still. most guys that steal them don't know they are there. looking back, there are several different wiring harnesses used from 84-94, and its somewhere in that range.
Only one wiring harness was made from 1973 to 1995 and that had the large diameter red "cannon" plug on engine end.
There were 2 styles of control boxes back in those years, and either one would work, though the 1978 and later was the most common style.

there were a couple of different engine wiring harnesses, just trying to help him cover his bases since he didn't say whether he needed a boat harness or an engine harness.
Thanks for all the help i will look under hood for numbers so i can find the true year.
I think what would help is model and serial number off the engine.
That is rule number 1, and obviously Championman isn't feeling like ignoring rules today.
Get that and I think you will get much better answers.![]()

When you say wiring harness, I am assuming that you mean the boat wiring harness so you can hook it up to the motor, right?
Does the motor have a large (1 1/2") diameter red plug attached to the engine wiring under the motor cover? If so, then your motor is a 1995 or earlier.
