    Trolling motor pedal well

Anyone install one of these on a G3 HP180? Trying to figure out if its doable without hitting a structural brace or something. I just started fishing without the front seat/pole and found that this frees up SO MUCH space on the front deck! Problem is trying to do the Captain Morgan thing with the trolling motor pedal without falling into the drink!

Re: Trolling motor pedal well (G3Jim)

G3 told me that it would involve cutting a brace and would void warranty.

I have seen a pic of one installed on a HP 180 but could find no info about the install just the complete pic.

I would say unless you can pull the front carpet and deck material for precise measurements and to avoid the brace your looking for trouble.

G3 also told me that would void the warranty, sure does get old that everytime you think about an upgrade it will void the warranty some way!!!!

Not sure if there is a difference in the 170's and 180's, but this guy put one in his 170, and I plan on doing one in mine soon as I get around to it. I have inspected under my deck and there is one cross brace up close to the front of the deck(about 3" back from the front plastic piece), but other than that...its good to go.

Here is the link to the HP170...

yes they are different. on the 170 you can see under the deck from the rod locker in the middle the 180 you can only see part of the underneath from the front tm plug panel with an inspection mirror

Re: Trolling motor pedal well (G3Jim)

I too fish without a front seat and love it as it gives me more space. I've been under the deck on the HP 180 & 200s and as others have stated... yes, there is a cross brace there which would have to be cut. Unless you welded or attached the brace back to the tray some way, it could seriously weaken the front deck. I would love to have the recess tray but I chose not to do it because of this and the fact that it does void the warranty.

Thanks everyone. Guess I'll have to practice my crane technique more! I'm not confident enough about my skills to risk altering structural components on the boat. As for warranty, I stopped worrying about it once I realized that my 2003 was no longer covered

Only other option is to build the front deck up - like a flats boat - and sink the pedal close to the bow. Might work.
